Ceremonial Conducting Baton Used by the Central Band of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force

A total of 100 batons with these specifications were delivered to the Central Band of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force by Nakano Corporation. The Grand Ceremonial Baton NC-GC565L was developed for official ceremonial performances requiring visibility, stability, and reliable control.

This model is designed for ceremonial conducting in outdoor performances, national events, military band performances, and large-scale formal occasions. It is especially suited to situations where a ceremonial baton or military band baton must remain clearly visible and stable throughout the performance.

On January 16, 2026, during the official event held for the visit of the Prime Minister of the Italian Republic to Japan, this ceremonial baton was used by the Central Band of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force for the performance.

In national ceremonies and official state events, a conductor’s baton must meet requirements beyond musical expression. Outdoor environments, visibility in large-scale formations, and stable conducting over extended periods are all critical factors. The NC-GC565L was designed with these ceremonial conditions in mind.

Why a 565mm baton length?
For large-scale ceremonial performances, the conductor must remain clearly visible to the entire ensemble. A longer baton improves visual clarity of gestures, particularly during outdoor performances and large formations. The 565mm length was chosen to enhance visibility while maintaining precise control.

Why was carbon graphite chosen for the shaft?
During the development process, there was a request for a material suitable for outdoor ceremonies that would be less affected by wind. Carbon graphite offers both light weight and high rigidity, helping the baton maintain a stable trajectory even in outdoor conditions. This material ensures clear and reliable conducting in demanding ceremonial environments.

Why a large diameter premium natural cork grip?
Ceremonial performances often require conducting for extended periods, sometimes with a firmer grip than in concert settings. To support this style of use, a larger grip was adopted to provide a secure hold and stable control. Premium natural cork offers moderate elasticity and excellent slip resistance, reducing hand fatigue during long ceremonies.

This ceremonial baton is not simply a commemorative model. It was developed based on the practical needs and feedback of professional users. For conductors, ceremonial band leaders, and military band directors seeking a ceremonial conducting baton with proven field use, the NC-GC565L offers both practical function and professional credibility.
